Event Description
From Empathy to Kindness in Practice: Everyday Pedagogy for Early Childhood
Presented by
Wendy Lee
This webinar explores how empathy becomes visible through everyday decisions, relationships and documentation.
This webinar explores how empathy and kindness can move from abstract values into daily practice in early childhood settings. Drawing on thinkers such as Sue Gerhardt, Carlina Rinaldi, Roman Krznaric and Vivian Gussin Paley, we’ll look at how our image of the child, our pace, and our systems either grow or erode empathy. Using real Learning Stories, we’ll unpack concrete strategies for noticing and nurturing children’s kindness, protecting dignity and, using documentation as a tool for dialogue with whānau and colleagues, and strengthening our own “empathy muscles” as educators. Come prepared to reflect, feel, and leave with practical ideas.
By the end of this webinar, you will be better placed to:
Recognise and respond to children’s expressions of empathy, kindness and belonging in everyday moments.
Create conditions that uphold children’s dignity, agency and emotional wellbeing, even when the pace is demanding.
Use documentation to support reflective practice and strengthen partnerships with families and colleagues.
