Event Description
Creating a Bush Program
Presented by
Deirdre Wilde, Tasha Huddy

Research continues to show the powerful benefits of moving beyond the gate and immersing children in nature based play. This webinar shares our ten year journey of taking children into the bush; what we have learned, what has worked, and the surprises that have shaped our practice. We will explore the practicalities of establishing a bush program including how to find the right natural space, assess and embrace risk, choose essential provisions, and bring educators and families with you. You will also hear about the challenges we faced and the glimmers that kept the work alive. Together we will explore the why behind nature pedagogy, what current research tells us, and how we have created a bush preschool place where everyone feels welcome.
Leave feeling ready to:
• Establish or strengthen a bush preschool program with clear processes, informed risk appraisal, and purposeful planning.
• Use research and lived experience to communicate the why of nature pedagogy to educators and families.
• Create nature based learning that fosters belonging, curiosity, and confident exploration for all children.
