Event Description
Connecting with Your Local Aboriginal Community
Presented by
Louise Cave, Anthony Semann

This webinar is for educators who want stronger connections with their local Aboriginal community but feel unsure where to begin. Many services hold genuine intent yet worry about doing the wrong thing or not knowing the right steps. This webinar offers clarity, confidence, and a path forward grounded in respect and relationship.
Across this session, you will explore how to reach out with care, approach Elders and knowledge holders appropriately, and understand the protocols that shape safe and ethical engagement. You will consider what it means to listen first, to follow the guidance of community, and to value ongoing relationships rather than one off visits. Practical strategies will help you map local organisations, identify the people who hold cultural knowledge, and learn about Country, language, and stories in ways that honour community ownership and permission.
You can expect to strengthen your practice through:
• finding respectful ways to reach out, listen, and build trust with local Aboriginal people
• creating opportunities for community members to shape children’s learning through story, presence, and shared experiences
• developing everyday practices that nurture long term community relationships and deepen children’s understanding of the Country they belong to
This is community connection built with intention, respect, and genuine partnership.
