Event Description
Developing an Authentic Welcome to Country with Children
Presented by
Louise Cave, Anthony Semann

This webinar is for educators who feel the weight of wanting to get this right. Many services want to honour Country with sincerity but are unsure how to move beyond familiar words that no longer feel connected. This webinar offers a grounded way forward. It begins with purpose, with cultural integrity, and with the understanding that children learn best through trust, story, and relationship.
Across this session, you will explore what Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country truly mean and why intention matters more than repetition. You will consider how to invite children into this learning through song, movement, storytelling, visual symbols, and daily routines that help them understand whose Country they are on. You will be guided to reflect on relationships with local Aboriginal communities so your practice is shaped by accuracy, permission, and respect.
You can expect to strengthen your practice through:
• finding meaningful ways to help children understand Country through everyday rituals, story, and creative expression
• shaping an approach to Acknowledgement that reflects your place, your community, and the voices of local Aboriginal people
• building confidence to support children as they learn about Country with curiosity, care, and cultural integrity
This is respectful practice that honours First Nations peoples and the Country children walk on every day.
