Semann & Slattery | Neuro-Affirming Learning Goals: Creating Learning Objectives That Align with Children’s Needs | Event
Event Description
Neuro-Affirming Learning Goals: Creating Learning Objectives That Align with Children’s Needs
When learning goals are built around fixed developmental expectations, some children are set up to be misunderstood. This webinar helps educators design more responsive, neuro-affirming objectives that honour children’s strengths, interests and sensory needs, so learning feels more inclusive, meaningful and supportive of genuine engagement.
This session explores how to design learning goals that genuinely reflect and respect children’s neurodiversity. Moving beyond development-driven planning, educators will explore the importance of and how to respond to children’s strengths, interests and sensory profiles. The focus is on creating flexible, meaningful objectives that support autonomy, engagement and well-being.
This will support educators to:
Shift from rigid, outcome-based goals to responsive, child-centred planning
Recognise and build on individual strengths and interests
Reduce behaviour-focused thinking and increase understanding of underlying needs
Create more inclusive environments that support regulation and engagement
Educators will leave with a renewed confidence to design learning that truly meets children where they are.
