Event Description
Culturally Appropriate Aboriginal Experiences with Children
Presented by
Louise Cave, Anthony Semann

This webinar is for educators who want to design culturally appropriate learning experiences but feel unsure how to do this with respect and accuracy. Many services worry about getting it wrong or unintentionally crossing cultural boundaries. This webinar offers clarity, confidence, and a grounded way to embed Aboriginal knowledge that is thoughtful, informed, and never tokenistic.
Together, we will explore the difference between cultural sharing and cultural appropriation, guided by the wisdom of your Aboriginal colleague. You will learn what requires permission, what must be community led, and how to avoid copying sacred or restricted imagery. Examples will include nature based learning, storytelling, music, movement, seasonal knowledge, and art experiences that reflect local Country and honour community voices.
You can expect to strengthen your practice through:
• designing experiences that reflect local Country and support children to learn with curiosity and respect
• understanding what requires permission and how to follow the guidance of community with care
• creating learning that is culturally safe, authentic, and grounded in relationship
This is practice that honours Country, community, and the integrity of Aboriginal knowledge.
