Event Description
Speak Easy 3: Complex Communication Needs - Signs and Symbols
Presented by

What happens when a child has something to say, but speech is not giving them a way to say it?
For children with complex communication needs, being understood may rely on much more than spoken words. For educators, knowing what to introduce, when to introduce it and how to use it naturally can feel unfamiliar.
In this practical webinar, qualified Speech Pathologist Colin Slattery explores augmentative and alternative communication and how it can support children under five to communicate, connect and participate.
Together, we will explore how to:
• Understand complex communication needs and recognise when a child may benefit from additional ways to communicate
• Explore different forms of augmentative and alternative communication and when they may be introduced
• Build foundational knowledge and confidence in using Key Word Sign
• Use signs and symbols through aided language stimulation as part of everyday interactions
Because every child has something to communicate. Our job is to make sure speech is never the only way they can be heard.
