Event Description
Beyond Compliance: Seeing, Thinking and Acting Together Through Documentation
Presented by
Kirsty Liljegren

'We make thinking rather than doing our priority'(Pelo & Carter, 2018)
This webinar invites educators to reimagine documentation as an intentional, achievable practice woven into everyday teaching, not an 'add-on'. When planned and prioritised, documentation becomes a way of seeing, thinking, and acting together, deepening our understanding of children, families, and ourselves as co-learners.
Together, we will explore how documentation:
- Strengthens relationships by co-theorising with colleagues, children, and families.
- Attends to the emotional and relational undercurrents that shape learning moments.
- Evolves dynamically, keeping projects and ideas responsive to children’s discoveries.
Through children’s words, gestures, drawings, and stories, documentation becomes a living record of inquiry, a tool for reflection, collaboration, and transformative practice.
Educators will leave with practical strategies to plan and prioritise documentation, making it sustainable, purposeful, and embedded at the heart of their teaching.
Completing Beyond Compliance: Seeing, Thinking, and Acting Together Through Documentation may contribute one hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) approved criteria and addresses:
