Event Description
Active Supervision – The What, Why and How
Presented by
Anthony Semann

This webinar focuses on active supervision as a core pedagogical practice that ensures children are both safe and supported in their learning. Participants will explore how active supervision is not simply about meeting regulatory ratios, but about creating environments where educators are alert, attuned, and engaged with children. Through practical examples, the session will demonstrate how observation, risk assessment, and professional judgment combine to keep children safe while extending their learning experiences. Attention will also be given to teamwork, communication, and positioning strategies that support effective supervision across diverse environments. Educators will reflect on how to balance children’s independence with their duty of care and how to embed supervision practices in policies, procedures, and daily routines.
By the end of this webinar, you will:
1. Understand the principles and elements of active supervision in early childhood settings.
2. Identify strategies for risk assessment, observation, and engagement with children.
3. Apply teamwork and communication practices to strengthen supervision.
