Note: This COP is relevant to participants wishing to explore “Creating shared goals for children with families; “Creating opportunities for active participation between the service and the home.” Families are the primary influence on children’s learning and development. Families have a long-standing relationship with and unique perspective on their child. This includes valuable information about their child’s strengths, abilities, interests and challenges. Description
Strong connections between the home environment and the early years service plays a major role in supporting children’s learning, development, health and wellbeing. This COP explores how to develop and strengthen partnerships with all families regardless of their unique circumstances.
Elements to investigate will be directed by participants, some possibilities may include:
- What strategies might I use to communicate with “challenging to engage” families or to negotiate and overcome barriers to equity and engagement?
- How are partnerships with families valued and reflected in your philosophy, policies and everyday practices of staff?
- How can I actively engage families and children in planning for ongoing learning and development in the service, at home and in the local community?
