Presented by Emma Rattenbury
Description
Play is known to be a crucial medium in which children process and express their understanding of the world around them. Therefore, utilising play as a therapeutic tool is a meaningful way in which to support children with their development and well-being. As play-based learning and intentionality is a key practice within the Early Years Learning Framework, early childhood educators have the potential to expand their understanding of play and how it impacts children’s neurobiological development. This workshop will explore the theories behind play therapy and the potential opportunities to embed elements of this process within the early learning space.
Completing Play Therapy: How can play be used as a therapeutic tool in an early childhood education context? may contribute one hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) criteria for Elective PD and addresses:
The Australian Professionals Standards for Teachers: APST 1: Know children and how they learn
Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes: Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
The National Quality Standard: QA 5: Relationships with children
