Presented by Dr Alma Fleet
Description
This session will give a brief overview of the ideas associated with the idea of being ‘alongside’ children rather than in a hierarchical position of power.
We will start with a consideration of your current views about children. What does it mean to have an ‘image of the child’?
What different images are there?
Have these images changed over time?
Do they vary depending on the age of the child?
How do these differences affect early childhood pedagogy?
Participants will be invited to consider a range of different adult/child relationships in early childhood settings and to wonder about the implications for professional practice.
Completing Thinking alongside children - Part 1 HOW DO I START may contribute one-hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) criteria for Elective PD and addresses:
The Australian Professionals Standards for Teachers: APST 1: Know children and how they learn
Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes: Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners
The National Quality Standard: QA 5: Relationships with children
