Session 2: Speech development for under 5s
Session 3: Complex Communication Needs - the signs and symbols

In this series a qualified Speech Language Pathologist will unpack with you the critical knowledge required to understand language and speech development in under 5s as well as explore augmentative and alternative communication for children with complex communication needs of under 5 and how signs and symbols can be used to assist children through this stage of development.

Topic areas include:

• receptive language development (comprehension)
• what to expect and when
• express language development including vocabulary development
• common language delays
• use of augmentative communication for complex communication needs
• sound development in children
• what to do and expect
• common causes of speech delays and problems
• how to model speech for children
• what is a complex communication need?
• types of augmentative and alternative communication
• when and how to introduce alternative forms of communication  
• introduction to Key Word Signs
• added language simulation using Key Word Sign and symbols

Completing the Speak Easy Series will contribute three hours of PD addressing the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and aligns with the NESA criteria for Elective PD.
