Unleash the power of group time and shared thinking with young children

Better understand the pedagogy of group time, re-imagine your group experiences with children APTS 1: Know children and how they learn Presented by Philip Butler

Description

When you hold group time do you ever feel like you spend more time supporting children's behaviour than focussing on the content of the lesson? Do you spend vast amounts of time preparing intentional group experiences only to be side-tracked at the last minute by children or other educators? Well, now is the time to stop doing group experiences 'to' the children and start doing group experiences 'with' the children. This webinar will invite you to re-imagine your group experiences with children, and the opportunities for shared conversations and reflective discussions these group experiences can offer us. We invite you to join us as we discuss a variety of teaching techniques and pedagogical understandings around the use of small-group learning.

Learning goals:

  • build skills around the use of small-group learning opportunities
  • gain confidence in communicating the importance of small group learning to colleagues and parents
  • develop a greater awareness of the connection between the group size and the quality of the learning/outcomes

Completing Unleash the power of group time and shared thinking with young children may contribute one-hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) approved criteria and addresses:

The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: APTS 1: Know children and how they learn

The Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes: Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

The National Quality Standard: QA 1: Educational program and practice
